Commonly checked benefits include Attendance Allowance for people over State Pension age who need help, and Carer's Allowance for people who spend significant time caring. Eligibility rules are set nationally and are best checked on GOV.UK or with a benefits adviser.
For the person being cared for
Attendance Allowance is not means-tested. It depends on care or supervision needs because of illness or disability. In Scotland, Pension Age Disability Payment has replaced it for new claims.
For the carer
Carer's Allowance has conditions about hours of caring and earnings. In Scotland, Carer Support Payment is replacing it.
